This release brings several exciting improvements including enhanced browser navigation and a new fill-in-the-blank backlink syntax. We’ve also fixed an issue with the graph view, deprecated a confusing navigation feature, and have some great upcoming work to share.
Navigation has been improved using the native browser forward / back buttons. Basically, screens that are just pass throughs are no longer added to the history. And, grading/skipping in study mode doesn’t add to the history (so going back just takes you out of study mode instead of incorrectly backwards).
You can now type [[__
to create a backlink that is also a fill in the blank. In study mode, fill in the blank. Everywhere else, a backlink. The underlying syntax is native markdown so it works in and out of flotes as a bold link.
You can now mark individual notes as a resource. This is useful if you plan to publish content and want to keep certain notes out of study mode for other users. Or you want to have xyz notes for studying and abc notes for referential material all in 1 studyable notebook.
Fixed an issue where all notes outside of the current notebook showed as “External note” in graph view. It will say “Unknown note” if you haven’t synced that note locally, otherwise the title displays as intended.
Removed the “Return to Last View” feature on the breadcrumb navigation. It was really confusing, and got way more confusing when jumping around graph views. The functionality is back to “Return to Notebook”. If you want to go back and forward, using the native web browser back and forward hotkeys or button is preferred and a universal / better experience.
Currently working on getting more views in Flotes to cache locally in the browser. This is working towards making Flotes a true offline-first application.
Also considering pivoting for a bit to make improvements to Tomatillo Timer. There has been a lot of requests, and a lot of things I think we can do better.
